Chung - Waiting Room 2Dr. Frank Chung began his medical career in western medicine as a pharmacist at Taipei Medical College in Taiwan, where he obtained a degree in pharmacology (Pharm. D.).  Dr. Chung also took an early interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Herbal medicine and acupuncture. He studied in earnest with the guidance of his father, a scholar and life long practitioner of Tai Chi Chuan, who encouraged Dr. Chung to pursue a career in Chinese medicine.  Dr. Chung completed an apprenticeship with Dr. Pei-Jung Sun of Taipei Taiwan and practiced acupuncture at Tri-Services General Hospital in Taipei.  Dr. Chung was invited to perform research in the US at the Florida Institute for Research in Acupuncture and at the Dorado Research Inc in New York.  Dr. Chung decided to relocate to the US and he obtained his doctorate of oriental medicine (OMD) at SF College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Dr. Chung is one of the earliest Acupuncturists to become licensed in the United States.  He served as one of the first examiners for the California Acupuncture Board, and used his years of experience as an Acupuncture Specialist at the Tri-Service General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan, to design the certification exam for the acupuncture license in California. Also, he served in a similar capacity for the national acupuncture certification examination for NCCA.  He is a former Professor at the San Francisco College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and served as a Researcher at Kaiser Hospital, OBGYN Department in Oakland, California.  Dr. Chung also authored several technical papers on acupuncture and, TCM and served as a featured speaker at both domestic and international healthcare conferences. Dr. Chung opened his acupuncture practice both in southern California with The Medical Group of Stanley Durbin, M.D. and in Oakland, where he continues to practice today. Currently, Dr. Chung is a member of the Board of Directors of the World Federation of Traditional Chinese Orthopedics (WFTCO) in Bejing, China, and a consultant and committee member of the Acupuncture Peer Review Committee, Medical Insurance Exchange of California (MIEC).  Dr. Chung is also a Professor at the American Global University in Cheyenne, Wyoming and at the American Institute of Acupuncture Orthopedics and Traumatology.   Dr. Chung continues serving his community with his acupuncture practice at the Acupuncture Center in Oakland, CA.
